Writing to printed magazines has always been a challenge to any writer.
The submitted content at Editor's desk needs to pass his/her scrutinization for its publishability, before it gets published.
It needs to be approved.
If approved, it gets published and the written content reaches the magazine readers. Though the content lives in the book now, it lives only in that boundary of pages.

A blog makes it possible for a writing to live forever in the blogging website and it is available to everyone!
A blog lives as long as the Internet lives whereas a magazine goes to bookshelves within a short time. It is prone to wear and tear. Over period of time, it could even disappear.
By offering such a nice blogging platform, Google has made it possible for anyone to show their writing capability and publish their thoughts which definitely offloads some weight from the mind!
